The form the advert takes:Realist Narrative- This is like a story, something which can happen and is realistic. http://youtu.be/MdDImaF5oCs
The advert is saying that the family play on the Wii on day-to-day bases. It shows the family playing on the Wii together, it also shows the game on screen. It shows how much fun they are actually having playing it as a family or how it would be fun even as a group of friends. There are a lot of long shots and medium shots showing them playing the Wii and it also shows there body language. There are also a lot of close-ups of their faces this shows the audience that they’re enjoying themselves. They show this not only through their body language but their facial expressions. There are also close-ups of the TV which shows the audience what game they’re playing. The target audience will not only be teenagers and young adults but will be families as well. The target audience can also be a group of friends, for example if they live together. The sound makes it look more realistic because it is them talking to each other, laughing and shouting at the TV. You can also hear the game on the TV in the background. As well as seeing them on the scene they stay in the living room throughout of advert.

Anti-realist narrative- This is the complete opposite to realist Narrative. It tells a story but of something that would never happen in day to day life. http://youtu.be/mutp93DDIyw
It is realistic to start with, people shopping, working and driving around a busy town. Then people start walking towards someone of the opposite sex, while doing this they’re leaving there jobs as if they’re doing nothing wrong. Dropping everything they have in their hands and someone even jumps off his motor bike while it’s moving just to go over to a woman. It’s saying if you wear lynx you’ll get anyone you want and won’t care about anything else or even if you cause a chaos. There are a lot of long shots showing the town and how it has set on fire and how it’s a mess and no one has noticed. There are also long shots of the people in the town who are causing the chaos trying to get to the opposite sex who they suddenly love because of they’re wearing lynx. The target audience will be teenagers and young adults of the same sex, because the lynx which is getting advertised is for both woman and men. The song which is played starts off slow and as the chaos starts it gets a little faster, also the lyrics kind of go with the advert.

Animation- Animated adverts usually have an animated character, making animated characters can make more people interested. The audience can usually remember these as well depending on how imaginative the character is. http://youtu.be/Y4drNFXd6dw
The two animated characters are a blue car and a red car, even though it isn’t that imaginative it is a well-known advert. The two cars are racing in a desert and the red car eats a lot throughout the race for example: cactus, truck and a sign post. Whereas the blue car only eats a milky way. The Milky Way gives the car more energy and he wins the race. There are a lot of long shots and medium shots of the cars which are racing. There are also long shots of the desert and close ups of the animated cars. The target audience would be children, the animation would catch their eye and they would be interested. They have made a song to go with this advert and it is catchy, children would also like this. The song would most likely get stuck in a lot of people’s head which is good.

Documentary- These can provide factual record or report. Some use pictures or quick interviews with people involved in real events to provide factual record and report to sell things to the aduience. The target audience is around 40+ even though some people younger may be interested in these adverts. These can also be edited in a sort of newspaper way.

The advert is selling 4head which helps get rid of a head ache, it says it is a easier way than taking tablets. It’s a woman showing how to use the 4 head, the background stays the same and looks like it has been drawn. The camera stays the same throughout the advert a medium shot of the woman using the 4 head it shows step by step of her opening it using it closing it and putting it down. It’s as if it is meant to be in a newspaper with how the background looks. The target audience would be adults and above. It may even be for people who don’t like or can’t take tablets and they suffer from head aches, better way for coping with the pain. In the back you can hear a woman’s voice talking about the product trying to sell it, it works with how the advert is set out.

Talking heads- A person or people talking about something to advertise it and the camera just focuses on their face throughout the advert. This is used a lot throughout advertising, it can help sell a product because it’s not seen as the companies point of view but someone who has been in and bought it before and was pleased with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-MGgwkrE_A
There are two young girls who talk about build a bear, they talk about the bears and the things which they can do. This works well because the audience see’s them explaining the bears and what you can do. They say how it creates fun and we can relate to that and we think if it’s good for them then maybe it would be good for us as well. The target audience for the advert is children because the product is for them and in the advert they’re showing all different things you can dress the bears in. When children see the advert they will want one and most likely ask parents/guardians for one. The camera shot is mainly medium shots of the two girls speaking to the camera about build a bear. There are also other shots, there is a long shot of the build a bear floor as you go into the shop, and this shows the shops logo. There are also medium shots and long shots of the clothing which you can buy for the bears you make in store. The advert also shows the audience what the out side of the shop looks like, with the bright colours and all the bears in the window would most likely want the child to go a lot more.

Stand-alone- This is a form of advert which is a one off, they will not be another advert by the same company that is related in terms of the story. It has a beginning and and end.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8Z4BlpFk0lU
Yell have produced a variety of stand alone adverts in a three month campaign of adverts to tell their customers their new phone number. The advert is animated and it is very colourful this would most likely catch the audiences attention. It starts off with angels sat on clouds in the sky using laptops, this relates to what their advert is about because they’ve made it as if they’re in an office. Then there is a taxi driving down the road with a panda driving and then theirs a family on a table wanting their dinner waiting for the take away delivery man to arrive. Everything in the advert has something to do with ringing or finding a number to ring the place you want this relates to the advert. Even though it is animated some people may be able to relate to it, for example if someone needed to find a number for a taxi place they might have run the number or even just looked in the yellow pages. The target audience is adults and above, not many teenagers would use this to find a number.

Series-This will constantly be developing story, it usually has a main character and additional characters. These shows a series of events which is happening, so it includes a beginning, middle and end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=l5bkniCUAow
BT have many a variety of adverts including this family, each one has a problem to be solved. In this one the mum is pregnant and is acting weird and being quiet and the step dad isn’t around so her son messages him via internet to ask if he’s spoken to mum because of how she is acting. Then the step dad messages his girlfriend (the mum) to see if she’s ok. She acts fine towards him, then when he rings her up using the home line later on she’s feeling her stomach which shows the audience why she’s acting like that. The point in the advert is that if they didn’t have BT none of them would be able to message each other and feel close. Throughout the advert there is a voice speaking which is saying what they say to each other. Towards the end of the advert it says ‘Guess what happens next’ this makes the audience want to know what happens even though they already know she is pregnant. The target audience would be young adults, adults and over, because they’re most likely the people who would want to use the internet and to keep in touch with family and friends who don’t live close by or are away.

The styles of the advert:
Humorous- Many companies use humour in some of their advert to make the advert rememberable and because it makes people watching it laugh. It is a very good effect to use. Many adverts have humour in them because it makes the members of the public think about buying the product and the advert doesn’t bore them so they most likely will watch it the whole way through instead of turning it off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9J_q2OUzis&feature=player_embedded An old couple think they're sat on a bench to eat their sandwhich, as they're about to eat them the roller coaster buckles them and goes. Theirs a lot of close ups of their faces while they're on the roller coaster. The advert is about specksavers, it's saying if you need glasses and don't wear them you'll end up doing things and no realising. They used two old people because when people get older their eye sight tends to get worse and they used humour by the two old people being on a roller coaster. You hardly see an old couple afround 60/70 getting on a roller coaster. They also use humour at the end when the old man says 'what sort of cheese was that?'.
Surreal- Surreal adverts are made to shock, provoke or entice the audience, so that they retain the brand information. for example-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0URj-sgL2hs This advert keeps the product away from the audience till the end they do this by using a couple speaking about a holiday and instead of music in the background their are things said like 'we dream about it' we research it' and etc... It shows a couple on holiday it shows them on a beach, riding a horse and in a hotel. When it says what the advert is advertising at the end it's obvious throughout but untill the audience finds out they keep the brand information away from them. It could be advertising a clothing brand because it shows a variety of diferent nice clothes.
Dramatic- A dramatic advert keeps the audience on edge and you don't know what to expect. It keeps them suspense.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UQLTcz2OQ0s
It starts off with slavery and it's hard work and horrible to go to work, but with the ability to work from home with a packard Bell Computer it will all become better. It features the slogan 'Wouldn't you rather be at home?' The advert is dramatic because of the scenes at the beginning, no body knows whats going to happen next or what the advert is about. You think what's going to happen next will be bad because of how dark and gloomy it is. The meaning of this advert is that you don't have to slave away outside in horrible weather when you can work from home on a computer. The advert is aimed at people who hate having to work outside or people with their own buisness and would find it easier working at home. It is aimed at both men and woman around 20-50/60.

Parodic- This is something which takes the mick out of something else, they use humour throughout the adverts when they make adverts using this style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=x89xAXHd2l8&NR=1
They start off with woman running around a jungle/beach the women are in their underwear which may get the advert more views. They’re running over the people not caring about what they do, then you see a none attractive man spraying himself. Then he puts his glasses and all the woman stop when they realise he isn’t good looking. Even though the advert takes the mick out of their own brand they do it in a good way when he puts the glasses on and say ‘should have gone to Specsavers’. As well as taking the mick out of their own brand/company they take the mick out of lynx as well by using the man thinking he can get woman running at him. The camera shots mainly stay as long shots of the woman running on the beach to get to him. The target audience would be people who have bad eye sight, this can be a variety of ages. It can also be for parents who have young children who have bad eye sight. The target audience could be men because it uses women in underwear. Seeing the women shows that they’ve used sex as an advertising techniques, majority of the lynx adverts use this advertising technique and that’s mainly the reason why they’ve used it in their advert.
Codes and conventions Within Adverts-codes are systems of signs, which create meaning, they can be divided into two categories. The two categories are techinical and symbolic. Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell a story in media text. Where as symbolic codes show what is beneath the surface of what we see, but some codes fit both categories. For example music fits both technical and symbolic. Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something, for example the use of interviewee quotes in a print article. They're also genre specific. They're both used together in a variety of things, for example; the technical code of lighting is used in a variety of films and adverts.
All adverts for a specific product are usually done in the same way, for example;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPbhzmIq9uU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onLYKU-CNhM
The blackberry advert shows the phone in the mans hand aswell as the Iphone, but in the blackberry advert they're saying it'd be quicker saying what the phone can't do. Usually mobile phone adverts say somethings the phone can do, they usually mention pictures, music and social networking sites. In all mobile phone adverts they show the actual phone, the product is always shiny and sometimes they spin it so the viewers can see what the phone looks like. In the Iphone advert it just starts off with the hand and when the phone gets put in the hand it's saying if you get the phone you'll have the world in your hands.
Other adverts show their old phones and compare their new one to it, this shows how they've improved the phone. They sometimes show how their new phone can be faster, their is also adverts showing their internet is faster on another mobile phone or their old products.
